votes, right this way, right now, follow the marching band to the polls. the romney folks on the other hand, are behind. which means they have a different job to do. they don't want america to go vote right now. if america went and voted right now, nate silver says president obama would win by 138 electoral votes. there are no marching bands leading people to the polls from the romney side right now. that is not what they need. what the romney side needs is that they still have to persuade people that governor romney is the guy they should vote for. at the national level, that means they need to fix whatever has gone so wrong with their campaign message and they need to stop doing whatever it is that has turned so many people off to their candidate. when you ask voters whether they like this mitt romney guy, the answer is a very, very plain answer. no. his favorable ratings are in the low 40s. almost 10 points lower than the ratings for president obama. lower, even, than the famously unpopular former president george w. bush right now. swing state voters say they do not think tha

romney right now, but this 47% thing. if you're barack obama, as he has been doing these attack ads the last few days, he will hammer mitt romney over the head throughout this debate about 47%. if he doesn't, he's mad. because it's an incredibly powerful hammer to use, because whichever way you try and spin that, it was a disaster. he called half of the country a bunch of scrounging victims. what does mitt romney do if barack obama does that? >> mitt romney has said a couple things since, piers. the first thing he said was that was me, not my campaign. he actually took responsibility which i appreciate when a grown man says i'm sorry, i made a mistake. number two, number two, his campaign is all about 100% of america and here's what he meant. he said it was inelegantly stated but i agree, not just the president will take him to task on that but i think the debate questioners will ask him. but romney should look at that as an opportunity not to be defensive again but to explain precisely what he meant. the other thing that he really should do here is i think call out the president an

mitt romney has it right in the sense that obama care is unpopular. pieces of it might be popular, but mitt romney's been campaigning that he would repeal obama care and replace it with pieces that are popular, but this whole idea about social issues i think is so fascinating and underreported that really it's the obama campaign and the democratic party that has tried to make this a social issues election. even turning questions of taxation into a question of fairness, not one of fiscal responsibility or sobriety because at the president himself said, you don't raise taxes in a recession, and we're still certainly struggling along in this economy. so taxation has been turned into a social issue. we saw in the mid-term election that 31% of gay men and women actually voted for the gop so. what did you see at the democratic convention? gay marriage being touted. finally, on women's issues. if you were to listen to the democratic party, apparently there's some deficit, some sortage sort a -- shortage of condoms, but women care most about the economy. democrats tried to focus female vo
